Are you wondering how to screen record on HP laptops?
Being able to screen record on an HP laptop is a handy feature to have, especially if you need to capture video or audio for a project.
Whether you’re making an instructional video for your team, recording a Google Slides presentation or PowerPoint slideshow, communicating asynchronously with co-workers, or just want to capture something on your screen for fun, there are plenty of situations where you’ll want to know how to record your screen on HP devices.
Luckily, it’s easy to do and doesn’t require any technical know-how!
In this article, we will show you exactly how to screen record on HP laptops with audio and video.
The Best Ways to Screen Record on HP Laptops
Here are some simple tips for how to screen record with sound on HP laptops:
1. Easiest Option: Using Loom for Free Screen Recording
Loom is a free browser extension and desktop app that makes it super simple to record your screen and share your screen recordings securely with others.
The free screen recorder tool from Loom is available as a browser extension. Additionally, there’s also a full Windows desktop app you can download too.
It’s also worth noting that Loom offers screen recording on MAC devices, but as this article is focused on screen recording on HP laptops, we’re not going to go in-depth about that.
All in all, Loom is a great screen recorder, and a fantastic alternative to other similar programs.
- Limitless computer screen recording/webcam recording up to 1 hour in length
- Easily add voice overs and insert speaker bubbles on screen recordings
- Video editing features to help you create a professional finished product
- Create eye-catching fully customized thumbnails for your videos
- Securely share your video links via email, social, or however you want
- Video links never expire
- Detailed tracking and metrics on how many people are viewing your video, who’s viewing it, and more
- No ads
2. Native Windows Method
Another method for recording your screen on HP laptops is using the built-in screen recording feature that comes with Windows. This tool is called the Xbox Game Bar, and it comes with Windows 10 and later.
To use the Game Bar tool, either search “Game Bar” on Windows or go to Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar, and then Enable Xbox Game Bar.
To start recording your screen, just click on the “Record” button in the app.
To stop recording, press the “Windows” and “Alt” keys on your keyboard at the same time, and then press the “S” key. This will open the GameBar menu. Click on “Stop Recording” to stop the recording.
The recorded video will be saved in the Videos folder in your user account. By default, it will be saved as “Screen Recording with Audio – <date> (<time>)”. You can rename it if you want.
If you want to edit the video before you save it, you can use Windows Movie Maker or another video editing software.
There are, however, some drawbacks to using Game Bar to record your screen on HP laptops.
Game Bar lets you record in most apps and windows, but not in all of them.
In fact, you can’t use the Game Bar to video screen capture the Windows desktop or File Explorer, and you can’t use it to record more than one window.
So if you want to make a video that details how to do something that involves numerous programs, you’d have to record a separate video for each program window.
Furthermore, the free built-in app for screen capturing is limited with some features, such as editing your recordings and sharing them.
3. Best Paid Option: Camtasia
Camtasia is a screen recorder and video editing software that can be used to record your desktop and convert it into a professional-quality video. With Camtasia, you can add annotations, transitions, and other tools to make your recording look its best.
To start using Camtasia for the first time, download the installer from Camtasia.com and install it on your computer like any other program. Once you have done this, open up the program and go to “Create New” in the top menu bar or click “File” then click “New Screen Recording”
A new window will pop up asking you where you want to save your file and how long do you want it to be. After you have done this, click on the “Start Recording” button that appears in the window.
Camtasia will then open a new window that shows your recording area. It will also begin recording your screen, so be sure to start doing what you need to do in order to capture video. To stop recording, just press the “Stop” button next to the record video button in the top menu bar.
Once you are finished filming, Camtasia will bring up another pop-up box with several advanced editing options. You can select any of these options if you want to edit your video before saving it. If not, click on “Next” and then go to the bottom left corner of Camtasia and click on the square-shaped button with a “tick” symbol in it.
This will bring up options of where you want to save your video file and what you want to name it. Click on the location where your video will be saved, type in a name for your recording, and then press “Save”. Camtasia will then upload your video to its website so that you can share it with anyone easily.
Because Camtasia is so feature-rich and is more than just a basic screen recorder, it does come at a cost of around $300 per user. There is, however, a free 30-day trial. Check out our Camtasia pricing guide to learn more.
